Goals

In the beginning of every year we are asked the same question "What are your goals for this year", "What do you want to achieve". To say the truth every year I come up with a list of goals that I'd like to achieve throughout the year, and almost every time i come up with these goals I manage to put it off during the year. This year I have a goal to myself, that I will actually try my hardest to achieve my goals. I want to prove to myself that I could actually do what i set my mind to,

This year i have a few goals that I want to improve in my English class. I want to improve my essay writing skills, I want to have all my assignments done on time, and last I want to begin every summative assignment before it is due.

The ways that I'm going to achieve these following goals, " I want to improve my essay writing skills", I will read more often so that i can improve my vocabulary. I would also like to make sure that when I hand in an assignment i have read over and made sure i fixed all my mistakes, before handing it in. For my second goal " I want all my assignments done on time", a few ways i can achieve this goal is by making sure i use my agenda so that I do not forget my homework. My last goal for this class " i want to begin every summative before it is due", almost every time i have an essay to write i decide to write in the last minute, a way i can improve my essays is taking time to think starting it, and not rushing through my work because the more time I take to do it, the better the essay is, and the better grade i get.

These are a few of my goals I would like to achieve this year.

"War is peace"

"war is peace", well isn't it a little odd to be using two words that are exactly the opposite. "war" which is violence and hate,and "peace" which is love and equality. it might seem rather strange at first but it does actually make sense. war brings peace, the reason why it does is because war is brutal and bloody and hated but in the end theres a conclusion, not necessarily good for both sides but a conclusion an end. Both sides either agree on who's right which doesn't happen often, or one side proves that they are stronger than the other.One way that war brings peace is that it makes people feel better that they accomplished something.Looking back at the book 1984 which is where doublethink is first introduced, the way the party controls the soceity is that they want them to have a common enemy in order to keep peace in oceania and keep all the people united. The party is manipulating their people which is making their job a lot easier when everyone has a common enemy and it stops war from coming into their society. which means that war is peace when your fighting with an enemy of a diffrent country like "eastasia" but when your fighting with someone on the same side as you it isnt peace. "War is peace".

WE ARE OUR ENEMY !

Well, this Unit is about media and i think that we have to go in depth instead of talking about the general public and how media affects them, we should talk about Kuwait. How is Kuwait affected by media? is its affected in a positive or negative way. Anyone can answer this question, at least anyone who lives in Kuwait. Media is a big problem, its what causes most problems in the first place.Kuwait, well one way Kuwait is affected by media is movies, pirated movies, there are people that record movies and sell them for a KD or 2 to the public, that's illegal everyone knows its illegal yet they still support the idea. Who wants to pay 6 or 7 KD for an original movie which takes time to come out on DVD when instead they can pay for a movie which is 5 or 6 times cheaper, and comes out during the time its showing in the cinema, well everyone knows the second choice is the winner. The police, are the people that should sto this, when they pass by stores that are selling movies that are pirated and against their rights they should stop it, instead they buy and watch. The people selling those movies TV shows and more have improved throughout the years instead of a person going in the car driving to the store, getting the movie, they could just sit home and relax and pick up their phone call the movie man and he just comes with all his movies and you buy them. This is wrong and should be stopped people should understand what they are doing is wrong and illegal and should be stopped.

The unimaginative

I recently learned that there is this new hospital for animals in Kuwait, not only is it a hospital your animal can have plastic surgery, it stays in the ICU, it can be a hotel that charges lots of money per night, you can also get it a passport picture. This is crazy isn't it. As technology is improving people are starting to do the unimaginative, people are starting to open places that no one would have thought of a few years back. The thing is that its starting to become normal, people are starting to get used to the fact that things that we never thought would happen two years ago is now here.When some people here that there is an animal hospital and you can do all these interesting things, they'd say well who wants to get their animal plastic surgery, who wants to have their animal stay at a 4 star hotel. Inst that a little too much that people ran out of ideas that are relevant that they started making 4 star hotels for animals, CRAZY, i know! People are now into new and funky ideas that not lots of people will think of, they want to start new things.


Clothing is an example of change, every few months there is something that "you have to have", just like in the winter its the UGGS, lots of people wear the UGGS not necessarily because its pretty and comfy but because its in style and everybody has it. people do things because of media, they see actors and actresses wearing something in the magazine and that's means they have to get it because she has it, or because everybody has it.

Happiness is the Soundtrack of my life

Music, what does it consist of, lyrics, i think that lyrics is like a language that only music can speak. Music is created by media. and can be interpreted in many different from different people. There are many types of lyrics, and music, theirs rap, pop, country their all different and interesting in their own ways.

There are songs that send a message to the public. like the song "Dear Mr. President" by Pink, its an old song, its about the homeless people and how people should care for them, shes actually speaking to the Former president of the United States George Bush about how he should care for the children, and people that need help. In the lyrics is says:

This talks about What REAL hard work is, and he doesn't know anything about hard work, shes also speaking to all the people that think that their life is hard and that they are struggling when the real people that are struggling are the ones who aren't complaining. That's an example of a song that's trying to send a message to the people that their are lots of other people that's lives are hard and we have to help them because if we think our jobs are hard then we should think twice, and look at the real people who are suffering.


Mostly people listen to music for entertainment, that's why there is a radio in the car, and that's why I Pods were created because it makes it a lot easier to listen to music at all times. Mostly lyrics tries to send a message, something personal or something to entertain the public. Music is loved and without it life would be a lot more boring.

For your entertainment...

Cliques, well how did cliques first start, take a guess... media. There are lots of movies that stereotype that in high school there are the popular kids, the geeks the smart people and etc. Well that's a problem because people around the world are acting upon this stereotype and are having different cliques in high school.

There are a few examples, movies like "Mean Girls" this movie made lots of teenage girls believe that in order to be pretty popular and cool you had to be mean "plastic", so that you could get what you want. That there are no true friends, this affected people a lot because girls wanted to be like them and wanted to get noticed, in the end you lose your friends and nobody wants to be lonely and friendless.


Media is very affective towards the public, especially children, when they watch movies they want to be just like the character, people producers and directors should be careful of what they make their movies about and what image and message they are trying to send. There are times when movies aren't sending the good and positive image which affects people a lot in bad ways, and these days children are watching movies that aren't their age.

TV is made for entertainment, it's made so that when someones bored they can watch, and their are age limits for movies, just like how these days children watch movies that aren't their age, they aren't made for children that's the problem, their too young to understand that a movie isn't reality.

Your true colors

Media, it consists of lots of different things, media can be the tv, radio, magazine, newspapers songs, and more, lets just say that everyone is affected by the media whether they know it or not. These days media is everywhere, what ever you hear mostly comes from media,the news, the internet and more. Ways that media has improved over time is that a message can be halfway across the world and can be sent in 2 minutes and thats due to the improvement of media throughout the years. Back then people didnt have access to the internet or the TV, messages were hard to be sent from place to place, but recently its been very easy to send a message through various different ways. New ways that people contact each other on a daily basis is MSN, Face book, My space,, skype ect. all these are free for everyone around the world, so instead of wasting money people could talk, send pictures and web cam for free which is really helpful. There are types of media that can be useless and harmful, like the Tv movies, that encourage bad and harmful things. media is a both bad and good, helpufull, and hatefull, there are types of people that believe and encourage media, and some that are against it.


Why... a question asked frequently, why am i fat, why am i ugly, why can't I be beautiful, people ask themselves this question all the time. Why? well everyone wants to be beautiful, and media helped create and show the image of beautiful, media shows that in order to be beautiful you have to be tall, and thin and attractive. well, media has corrupted peoples brains, no you dont have to have all those characteristics. Beautiful comes from the inside, from the heart, you cant judge a book by its cover, you have to see the inside. I think that media has done damage to people all around, its a problem when little girls think that they need makeup at the age of 5 or that they are too fat, its an issue that has spread everywhere and left a mark.

People, especially woman think that they have to hold an image for the public, and that they have to be perfect and look perfect, well who doesnt everyone wants to be admired and told their beautiful, that's true, but people started going to extreme measures. Its a problem when a woman thinks that shes overweight when she weighs 110 pounds. As you can see this is happening all around the world, people are suffering from diseases like anorexia and bulimia. Why would someone want to starve themselves, WHY. well media can answer that question "looks" are starting to define a person and how they look so people are doing everything they can to fit this stereotype and can't stop. "just another two pounds and ill look perfect" and after the two pounds another and another, "I'm not perfect enough". A person should be perfect for themselves and not others, everyone's perfect is different, but everyone's perfect should be reasonable
